Scott mac Tominay reportedly burst into laughter after a manchester United shouted “f*** liverpool ” during a kit launch in Melbourne earlier this month.
The incident happened during United’s successful pre-season tour of Thailand and Australia. The Red Devils recorded comfortable victories against Liverpool, Melbourne Victory and crysta palace although Steven Gerrard’s Aston Villa held them to a 2-2 draw.
United have two more friendlies against Atletico Madrid in Norway and Rayo Vallecano at Old Trafford to come before their premier league campaign gets underway. Erik ten Hag’s side will start the season at home to Graham Potter’s Brighton on August 7.
United launched their new away in Federation Square with the likes of McTominay, Bruno Fernandez Jadon Sancho and Marcus Rashford in attendance. The Red Devils were welcomed by thousands of passionate fans… and one of them was a little too passionate.
As reported by The Athletics , McTominay ‘could not hide his laughter’ when a United supporter shouted his distain at Jurgen Klopp’s side. The Scot is widely regarded as one of the most passionate players in the squad and wasn’t afraid to show his love for United.
- McTominay, like many United players, came under fire last season after the team’s poor sixth-placed finish in the Premier League. They recorded their lowest points tally in 32 years (58) and haven’t won a trophy since their Europa League success in May 2017.

“It’s obviously difficult to speak about last year,” said McTominay earlier this month. “Obviously it touched a nerve in terms of when we speak about it again as a group. It’s not nice.
“But that’s got to be the motivation now to put everything back to normal and obviously go for trophies again under the new boss, because I know that this squad is more than capable of doing that… you’re playing for Man Utd, you’re going to get criticised.”
McTominay is confident United can be successful again following the appointment of Ten Hag. The Dutchman boasts an impressive CV, guiding Ajax to three Eredivisie titles and a Champions league semi-final during his four-and-a-half-year tenure in Amsterdam.
“Everyone’s so, so happy with the new coach in terms of the detail and attention to the work that we’re doing, and everyone’s so fit now,” said McTominay. “And we can get fitter, I can get fitter, the whole team can, which is obviously a benefit for the future as well.”
Several United players have praised Ten Hag’s methods. “I think for me, it is just fresh ideas, fresh tactics and a new personality that has been added to the team,” Marcus Rashford told MUTV earlier this month. “I am looking forward to working with him.”
Rashford added: “He is very detailed out on the grass and even in the rules of each game… it is all fresh and when something is fresh it is good for the mind and good for the body, so we are all looking forward to working with him and hopefully we continue to improve.”
