liverpool fans are turning on their American owners, Fenway Sports Group, for a lack of investment after their shock defeat to Leeds United
Crysencio Summerville scored a dramatic late winner as Leeds pulled off a 2-1 defeat over the Reds at Anfield to add more misery on their poor start to the season.
Rodrigo opened the scoring for jesse Marsh’s side after poking the ball into the net after a mistake from defender Joe Gomez, but it was shortlived as the hosts responded when mohammed Sallah volleyed home a cross from Andrew Robertson.
Summerville picked up the ball from Patrick Bamford and fired beyond Reds goalkeeper Alisson Becker in the final minutes of the match at Anfield.
Fenway Sports Group (FSG) bought Liverpool back in 2010 and enjoyed plenty of success since by winning the Premier League, Champions League, FIFA Club World Cup, UEFA Super Cup, FA Cup, League Cup and Community Shield.
Fans, however, have flooded social media to turn on the club’s American owners for failing to invest into the squad to remain among the Premier League’s elite.
One fan posted: ‘Years of underinvestment. Years of negligence from top to bottom. This is what happens. It’s time to go. #FSGOUT #KLOPPOUT.
A second said: ‘F**k it. Enough is enough. That dross that Klopp has to choose from now is directly down to the criminal lack of investment in the squad. Sell to buy. Fuck off. #FSGOUT.
A third chimed in with: ‘You don’t invest in the club, you don’t succeed. FSG have got us in this mess, and it doesn’t look like we’re getting out of it (this season at least, anyway.) #FSGOUT.
A fourth tweeted: ‘Won the champions league, didn’t invest. Won the premier league, didn’t invest. We had the chance to build a fucking dynasty but Fsg failed us. Got the club on the cheap and always sold to buy. #FSGOUT.
One Reds supporter said: ‘People blaming individual mistakes, but ignoring the elephant in the room. Lack of investment has killed us. 3rd oldest squad in the league. End of story. #FSGOUT.
Another added: ‘I’ll try my best to help spread the #FSGOUT message as there is FSG Puppets with large platforms not doing a thing!’
Numerous Reds fans, however, remain confident in manager Jurgen Klopp’s ability to guide the club from the dug-out.
One said: ‘Who else could do a better job than Jurgen under the owners restrictions? He’s been working miracles & when he needed help from the owners, they’ve let him down again. #FSGOut
