Liverpool under-18s exited the Premier League Cup at the group stages after a 4-3 defeat by Wolverhampton Wanderers on Saturday afternoon.

Marc Bridge-Wilkinson’s side had lost 8-1 to Charlton Athletic and 3-1 at the hands of Tottenham Hotspur in their other two group games, with today’s showing rounding off a miserable cup campaign.

The Reds, who were only beaten by Wolves last weekend, were behind again against the West Midlands side after ten minutes courtesy of Owen Farmer’s effort.

Josh Esen doubled the hosts’ lead nine minutes later before Liverpool pulled one back on the stroke of half-time.

In what was his full debut at U-18 level, Keyrol Figueroa opening his goalscoring account for the 2022/23 season to offer hope of a second-half comeback. Sensing a response from the visitors, Fabian Reynolds struck twice in quick succession to extend Wolves’ lead to 4-1 with less than 30 minutes remaining in the contest.

Elijah John, a first-year scholar with the U18s, and 15-year-old defender Carter Pinnington pulled two goals back late on but a late leveller proved elusive.
