The Harvard University Academy Scholarship for International Students is a program that aims to assist international students from all around the world in furthering their studies by offering scholarships to qualifying Ph.D. and doctorate candidates.
The Academy Scholarship program is designed for individuals interested in pursuing a Ph.D. or doctorate degree at Harvard University. The scholarship program aims to promote academic success by providing financial aid to suitable students in the social sciences or law to encourage ability and dedication.
Scholars must have a strong command of the English language, be based outside of the United States or Canada, and demonstrate a love for international relations, transnational law, and cross-cultural awareness to be considered for this program.
For years, the Academy Scholarship program has been in place to encourage further research and study in the fields of social sciences, law, politics, and international relations for candidates who live outside of the United States.
Harvard University award a two-year postdoctoral fellowship to the selected scholars thereby supporting them with funding for their study at the Harvard Academy. The funding covers living expenses and research projects during their stay at the academy.
Harvard University Scholarship Amounts
Candidates who are chosen before completing a Ph.D. will receive $35,000 per year. The stipends are in addition to the scholars’ travel and lodging expenses while at Harvard University. Additionally, students who have not completed their Ph.D. program will get $70,000 in research project money when they enroll in this program.
Harvard University Academy Scholarship Entry Requirements
Interested applicants must meet the following requirements to be considered for the Harvard University Academy Scholarship for International Students.
Applicants must have an outstanding academic record, as well as a strong desire to study at Harvard University and a strong research potential.
Applicants must have a strong command of the English language and a desire to study law, international relations, or cross-cultural understanding at Harvard University.
Candidates must have recently received a Ph.D. or doctoral degree in law or the social sciences.
Candidates in the social sciences and law must have finished their degrees within the previous four years of the application deadline.
The scholarship program is open to Ph.D. candidates who have completed their academy coursework and have the necessary writing skills to become Academy Scholars.
In light of the application deadline, those who have completed their studies can only apply within three years of completing their Ph.D. program.
Non-US citizens are required to apply. This award is also open to stateless students who do not have US citizenship or permanent residency in the United States.
How to Apply for Harvard University Academy Scholarship
To be considered for this award, applicants must complete an online application that includes a cover letter, CV with a list of publications, research plan, Ph.D. transcript, and three letters of recommendation.
The letters should be addressed to the “selection committee” and uploaded to the website before the application deadline. If the applicant is no longer pursuing a Ph.D., copies of their letters of recommendation must be attached. Those with a Ph.D. should provide their diploma and dissertation.
